Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid Could Be India’s Most Affordable Hybrid SUV – Launch Expected in 2026
If you’re planning to buy a fuel-efficient SUV with modern features at a budget-friendly price, Maruti Suzuki might soon have the perfect option for you. The carmaker is working on its own strong hybrid system, codenamed HEV, for popular models like the Fronx, Baleno, Swift, and Brezza.
The Maruti Fronx Hybrid is expected to be the first car to come with this new in-house strong hybrid engine. While an official launch date hasn’t been announced yet, reports suggest that the SUV could arrive in 2026.
This move will help Maruti compete with other hybrid SUVs in India, while offering better mileage, low running costs, and advanced technology—all without a high price tag.
Fronx Hybrid Expected Price in India
The Fronx Hybrid is expected to carry a premium of ₹2 lakh – ₹2.5 lakh over the current petrol-only versions, which are priced between ₹7.54 lakh – ₹13.06 lakh (ex-showroom). This means the starting price of the hybrid variant could be around ₹10 lakh, making it the most budget-friendly strong hybrid SUV in the country.
Fronx Hybrid Mileage & Specifications
Under the hood, the Fronx Hybrid is likely to get the 1.2L, 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine, which is also seen on the new Swift. It could be paired with either a manual transmission or an AMT gearbox.
- Expected Mileage: Between 35kmpl – 40kmpl, making it one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in India.
- For comparison, the regular petrol Fronx delivers 21.79kmpl (MT) and 22.89kmpl (AMT).
Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming in-house hybrid technology is expected to be more cost-effective than the Toyota Atkinson cycle hybrid used in models like the Grand Vitara and Invicto.
Fronx Hybrid Design & Features
The design of the Fronx Hybrid will mostly stay the same as the regular version, except for ‘Hybrid’ badging and possibly some exclusive styling elements. A test mule was recently spotted with ADAS sensors on the grille, hinting at the inclusion of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in the hybrid model.
Inside the cabin, the layout and premium features will likely remain unchanged. The hybrid variant is expected to be offered in top-end trims, which include:
- 360-degree camera
- Head-Up Display (HUD)
- Cruise Control
- Rear AC vents
- Wireless charger
- Fast USB charging ports
- Suzuki Connect connected car features
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel
